TKHS STUDENTS COMPETE WELL AT ALMA ROBOTICS CHALLENGE

Two teams from Thornapple Kellogg High School competed amongst 20 teams from around Michigan in the Alma Robotics Challenge which was held on March 27.  This competition is an invitational robotics tournament using the Lego Mindstorms Robotics Platform.  The team of Lyle Jackson, Cailly Howell, and Matt Davidson wrote a complex program to run the robot they designed, ending up second in their division.  Unfortunately this was not enough for them to qualify for the semi-finals.  The TK team composed of Tyler Rafferty, Michelle Howard, and Nicole Todd used more of a defensive strategy and made it all the way to the final round guaranteeing them one of the top two places.  The final round against a team from Cranbrook proved to be an exciting one with the first place team being decided in the last few seconds of the match.  In the end TK was awarded the 2nd place plaque.

MOCK DISASTER AT TKHS ON MAY 1
April 18, 2008, 5:13 am

On Thursday, May 1, TKHS will have a drunk driving mock disaster.  This event will happen in the afternoon on Bender Road in front of the high school.  Senior and junior students will be in attendance and some will even participate in the event.  The mock disaster is taking place for two reasons:

-To provide a powerful message to our seniors and juniors about the dangers of drinking and driving (two days before Prom).

-For TKHS to provide a community service to our local emergency organizations (gives them an opportunity to practice the needed skills in emergency response).

More information will be out soon.
